MEMORIAL DAY REFLECTIONS

In an old-fashioned way, Memorial Day is a special day for me. It reminds me of the sacrifices of thousands of ordinary men and women who have served since the birth of our nation in order to protect our freedom.
In an old-fashioned way, Memorial Day reminds me of my deep sense of pride for a nation which truly is “...the land of the free and the home of the brave.”
In an old-fashioned way, Memorial Day reminds me of what it means to live in the “land of the free” which is a gift to all of us from the “brave” who have fought for and defended our freedom.
In an old-fashioned way, Memorial Day is a day when our flag is more than red, white and blue, Memorial Day is the day that our flag stands as symbol of freedom which proclaims the strength of a caring nation.
In an old-fashioned way, Memorial Day reminds me of those four simple words from the Pledge of Allegiance that we are blessed because we are “...one Nation under God.”
In an old-fashioned way, Memorial Day reminds me of the words of President Ronald Reagan when he said,
“Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again.”
In an old-fashioned way, Memorial Day should be the one day that all Americans take a moment to simply say thank you to the thousands of men and women who wear the uniforms of our military for it is their dedication and sacrifice which truly keeps America “... the land of the free and the home of the brave.”
