THE FIRST AMENDMENT

AND FIVE SMOOTH STONES

The founding fathers were men of faith.  After they completed the Constitution, they were not satisfied, they knew that there were certain rights which would be demanded of this new government, rights which had been fought for in a bloody war of independence.  The founding fathers knew that in addition to the Constitution, and in order to ensure that freedom would no longer be dictated by King George III, or any monarch, they would have to draft a list of rights which would protect against future abuses of power by a central government.

As a result of the very real concerns of our founding fathers, on March 4, 1789, the Congress of the United States completed and wrote what would become known as the Bill of Rights to the United States Constitution.  The preamble to the Bill of Rights expressed in words the intent of our founding fathers and the Congress that America would forever remain a free nation.

The words of the preamble to the Bill of Rights are words which are often overlooked.  However, for the David’s who have decided that it is okay to fight, for the David’s who have enlisted in God’s army, for the David’s who have picked up their slingshots and their pouches of five smooth stones, the preamble was written as a roadmap  for all the future David’s who would be called upon to fight the Goliath’s that were sure to come, the Goliath’s intent on destroying the freedoms of a religious nation.

THE PREAMBLE TO THE BILL OF RIGHTS

Congress OF THE United States
begun and held at the City of New York, on Wednesday the Fourth of March, one thousand seven hundred and eighty nine.

THE Conventions of a number of the States having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added: And as extending the ground of public confidence in the Government, will best insure the beneficent ends of its institution

RESOLVED by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America, in Congress assembled, two thirds of both Houses concurring, that the following Articles be proposed to the Legislatures of the several States, as Amendments to the Constitution of the United States, all or any of which Articles, when ratified by three fourths of the said Legislatures, to be valid to all intents and purposes, as part of the said Constitution; viz.:

ARTICLES in addition to, and Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America, proposed by Congress, and ratified by the Legislatures of the several States, pursuant to the fifth Article of the original Constitution.

Wow! Think about it for a moment, although our founding fathers could have bestowed upon themselves unlimited powers, powers which would have grown their wealth, chose instead to ensure public confidence that America would remain a free nation, a nation where men and women of faith would not have to bow before an altar of powerful and greedy leaders, instead America would remain a free nation where men and women of faith would and could bow before God.

Before beginning our journey through the chapters which will describe the many battles which have been fought to preserve America as a Christian nation, and the battles which are lie ahead, we need to consider and carefully read the most important amendment in our Constitution’s Bill of Rights, the First Amendment, words which will provide insight into the reason for the five smooth stones which David carried in his pouch, five smooth stones which would be used against the Goliath’s that Satan would send against God’s army.

THE FIRST AMENDMENT

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Did you catch it? Did you count the five freedoms enshrined in the First Amendment to America’s Constitution?  Did you find the words that expressed the firm and unwavering commitment of our founding fathers’ that all generations of Americans would be guaranteed an absolute freedom of religion; and absolute freedom of speech; an absolute freedom of the press; an absolute freedom of assembly; and, if any of those freedoms might be abridged, the fifth freedom would be the freedom to petition the government to address our grievances.

While many might disagree, it appears that our founding fathers were sending a message to all Americans that as men of faith, they had followed David’s example, and as we know before David went out to battle with Goliath “he took his shepherd’s stick and then picked five smooth stones from the stream and put them in his bag.  With his sling ready, he went out to meet Goliath.” 1 Samuel 17:40 (GNT). Our founding fathers made it clear that they were giving all future generations of Americans, all men and women of faith, a shepherd’s pouch with five smooth stones.

So before you pick up your shepherd’s stick and your sling, take a moment to pour out the five smooth stones in the pouch named the First Amendment, and you will see that each of the five smooth stones are etched differently, one smooth stone is etched with words freedom of religion; one smooth stone is etched with the words freedom of speech; one smooth stone is etched with the words freedom of the press; one smooth stone is etched with the words freedom of assembly; and, the fifth smooth stone is etched with the words freedom to petition our government to address our grievances.

Now that you have agreed to follow in David’s footsteps and enlist in God’s army where it is okay to fight, now that you have picked up your shepherd’s stick, now that you have picked up your sling, and now that you have your pouch of five smooth stones which were given to all generations by our founding fathers, it is time to march forward on the road to Armageddon to fight one battle at a time.  It is time to fight the Goliath’s Satan has sent out, Goliath’s intent on destroying America; Goliath’s intent on destroying and stealing our five freedoms, freedoms we know as religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition.

So, now that we have everything needed to fight Satan and Satan’s Goliath’s, let turn the pages of the stories of everyday Americans, men and women of faith, as we explore the reasons our founding fathers prepared us for the battles which lie ahead, battles which will be fought with the five smooth stones of the five freedoms enshrined in the First Amendment of our Constitution.
